20,000 doses of contaminated meningitis C vaccine recalled

Oh yeah, just blindly trust the government, right? EDIT: The original article now says 60,000 recalled.

Daily Mail

Safety fears over contaminated batches of meningitis C vaccine tonight led to thousands of doses being recalled.

The alert was sounded after tests found traces of the bug Staphylococcus aureus – which can potentially cause blood poisoning – in supplies of vaccine sent to the UK.

Up to 20,000 doses, delivered to GP surgeries and health clinics in the last month are affected, but it is not yet known how many have been given to babies.

The vaccine, sold under the trade name Menjugate, was manufactured and packed by Novartis in Italy.

About 60,000 doses are being recalled, of which one-third had already been distributed to GPs.

Government health chiefs said the recall was a ‘precautionary measure’ and no adverse reactions have been recorded in children in Britain.

This reminds me of when Bayer sold millions of dollars worth of an injectable blood-clotting medicine — Factor VIII concentrate, intended for hemophiliacs — to Asian, Latin American, and some European countries in the mid-1980s, although they knew that it was tainted with AIDS.

That is the problem with vaccines, apart from the fact that it is a completely unnatural way to build immunity. Any poisons or toxic substances introduced into the vaccine will definitely be introduced into the recipients, and there are a million ways of distorting the criteria for connecting reactions to vaccines so ‘officially’ the number would be low.

Just try telling that to families whose children have been damaged by them. Remember, people don’t live longer because of vaccines, they live longer because of healthy eating, sanitation and living conditions. But if everyone thought like that Big Pharma wouldn’t make the billions they do then, would they?

  1. That is what I would expect Chicagoman. If they let their lab get contaminated to that extent, it shows that these production systems shouldn’t be trusted without question, and if they knew it was in there and left it..

well, that wouldn’t be the first time would it.

  2. I work in biotech. And I can say with 100% certainty that there is no way that Staph could have gotten into the final product by accident without being detected. That or their production facilities were contaminated badly, but usually you see other organisms before you see Staph, like E coli or some fungal contaminants.
